Student Ambassador Spotlight: Meet Minh!

May 7, 2024

Meet Minh Tran! A psychology major from Renton, Minh hopes to get her Psy.D and become a clinical psychologist one day. Until then, she is enjoying Bellingham’s lakes and parks and Western's beautiful campus and community.

Why did you choose Western?

I wanted to stay in state and close to home.

What do you like about Western?

The beautiful campus and the supportive faculty/staff on campus.

How is your student ambassador experience? What are your duties?

I have been a student ambassador for 3 years and my experience has been amazing. I’ve had lots of fun working events like handing out nametags at the president’s house or attending scholarship dinners and talking with donors/alumni and scholarship recipients. I’ve also been able to meet so many amazing people like my peers and coworkers and others that I’ve met while working events.

Which professors do you work with and what is your favorite class?

I currently work with Dr. Antonya Gonzalez in the Intergroup Cognition Lab. My favorite class has been Lifespan Psychology or Social Psychology.

What would you like to say to a someone who has made a gift to support Western students and programs?

Thank you for your gift and generosity. Your support for the students and programs at Western makes a lasting impact. Your gifts support each student's learning and allow them to receive the education and the resources for their future successes and careers. In addition, when students experience the generosity of a gift, it also paves the way for them in the future to want to give back and continue the cycle.

What do you do when you aren’t in class?

When I’m not in class and the weather is warm enough, I enjoy playing tennis or going out to Lake Padden to paddleboard. If it’s a cold day out, I enjoy staying inside and cooking or doing a puzzle.

Where is your happy place either on campus or in Bellingham?

My happy place in Bellingham is Boulevard Park. I enjoy going out there for a walk to enjoy the fresh air or laying a blanket down to relax or do homework.

What are your professional dreams and goals?  Where could you see yourself in five years?

After I graduate from Western, I plan to attend a graduate school to pursue a Psy.D. program and become a clinical psychologist. In five years, I will be towards the end of my program and hopefully working a job related to the field of psychology.
