The Western Stands for Washington Campaign concluded on WWU’s 123rd Founders’ Day—the day the then-New Whatcom Normal School was established by legislation. With the support and contributions of the public and Western communities, WWU not only met our $60 million goal seven months early, we surpassed it! By January 31, 2016, our campaign total reached more than $62 million. Beyond the financial success, what really distinguished this campaign was the way it so richly reflected our Western community.
Each of your gifts individually demonstrated at their heart the elements that make WWU so special: the commitment of our faculty to our students, for example; an alumnus—who proved to be an education pioneer in his own right—who recognizes his alma mater’s transformative training, as another example; a parent, already a committed donor, who enthusiastically supports a brand-new major; and a key Western figure for more than four decades whose tireless support of the University came to generous fruition during this very campaign.
