Join Huxley and WWU alums for the inaugural Huxley Goes the Distance for Racial Equality 5K/25K, bringing awareness to racial inequality while raising funds to support scholarships for WWU BIPOC Huxley students.

Participation is on your own time—go at your own pace, using whatever conveyance you prefer! You can even create a team (social distancing encouraged). Walk, roll, run, bike, swim, or prancercize!

You have until November 30 to complete either a 5K or a 25K. The entry fee supports critical racial equality momentum at Western Washington University and Huxley College of the Environment.

At Western and Huxley, we acknowledge the conservation movement must diversify to become more inclusive and effective. Support for diversity is critical to broadening the impact of our Huxley students and, to that end, we created the Huxley Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Environmental Justice Fund to support members of these communities. Our goal is to endow this scholarship with $25,000 as our permanent commitment to elevate our BIPOC students’ visions and voices long-term mission.

Commemorative eco-cotton drawstring backpack will be available for purchase in the race website’s store. In addition, top winners in the following categories will receive a custom medallion.

  • Top individual fundraiser
  • Top team fundraiser
  • Fastest individual time
  • Fastest team time
  • Most creative mode of transportation (determined by Huxley Dean)
  • Registrant from the farthest away
  • Participant with the most social media posts in one day 

Take a picture with your bib and/or your team, and share to social media with the hashtag #WWUHuxley5k and tag the WWU Alumni Association (WWU Alumni Association on Facebook; wwualumni on Twitter; wwu_alumni on Instagram).
