Bellingham resident Patti Ramsey has been a stained glass artist for the past sixteen years. After many years of creating traditional stained glass panels, she became fascinated with abstract patterns and began creating her own designs. Her contemporary pieces often contain unusual focal points, such as fused glass, natural stones, and wire.

Patti finds inspiration for her stained glass designs by sitting outside and observing nature. She rarely has a plan for what she wants to depict. Instead, she focuses on an emotion she wants to portray, and starts with a pencil sketch. She then creates a pattern that connects with a particular focal piece. The most difficult part of the task is choosing the glass to use. But once chosen, it is carefully scored, cut, ground, fitted, wrapped, and soldered together to become a finished piece. Her finished art is sophisticated and elegant.
