Student Ambassador Spotlight: Lesivya Elsayed

Lesivya Elsayed is an International Business student from Cairo, Egypt. Lesivya aspires to pursue international corporate law and be a lawyer, travelling the world.

Why did you choose Western?

I chose western as it was an opportunity to continue my travels all around the world, to learn and experience all that there is. It was a landscape completely different from what I had grown up in living in UAE and Kuwait. But most importantly it offered International business as a bachelors, not a master's like many other universities.

What do you like about Western?

I love how it's been my gateway to another world. I’ve met incredible people situated in a small town, surrounded by greenery yet near the water. Moreover, Western has given me the opportunity to grow and learn so much more about myself.

How is your student ambassador experience? What are your duties?

It's been amazing, I get to help set up for exciting events as well as meet our wonderful guests and get to know them. Most importantly, I try to ensure that I’m creating a positive and energetic environment at our events.

Which professors do you work with? What is your favorite class? If not in a declared major yet, what is your area of interest?

I’m an international business major and my favorite class so far has been Introduction to International Business, taught by Skyler Powell. He’s such a talented lecturer. He had us laughing and genuinely enjoying the course every single class. There was always an interesting story to tell and some of our most regular topics were made to sound fascinating. I think it takes a lot of passion be able to do that.

Are you the beneficiary of philanthropy at Western (scholarship, grant, travel experience, etc)? If so, how has that made a difference for you? If not, are any of your friends or classmates, and if so, what impact has it had on them?

I am not, and none of my friends have shared that they are. However, with attending the events to celebrate the achievements of the beneficiaries, it is so easy to see the impact philanthropy creates at Western, simply through the joy of the students and the way it inspires many to reach further into their studies.

What would you like to say to someone who has made a gift to support Western students and programs?

Thank you, your support echoes through our university and beyond. You’ve not only helped university students, but you’ve promoted a brighter future for all of us.

What do you do when you aren’t in class?

I volunteer at the radio station, KUGS FM, sing, play a couple instruments, and try to explore as much of Washington as I can!

Where is your happy place either on campus or in Bellingham?

My happy place is wherever the sun is shining.

What are your professional dreams and goals? Where could you see yourself in five years?

I want to further my education into pursuing International corporate law and hopefully in 5 years I will have become a lawyer that's traveling the world.
