In the wake of post-9/11 xenophobia, Obama’s record-level deportations, Trump’s immigration policies, and the 2020 uprisings for racial justice, the US remains entrenched in a circular discourse regarding immigration. In this talk Silky Shah will share why abolitionist approaches are essential to achieving immigrant justice.
The World Issues Forum series is free and open to the public. Talks are held at 12:00pm in Fairhaven College Auditorium, on the top floor of the Fairhaven College main building to the rear (east) side. If you enter from the west entrance (halfway between the second and third floor facing parking lot 12A), take the half-flight of stairs to the left and continue to east side of the building from there. You'll see the door to the auditorium a little to your left.

Silky Shah, Speaker
Silky Shah has been working as an organizer on issues related to racial and migrant justice for over two decades. She is the executive director of Detention Watch Network, a national coalition building power to end immigrant detention in the United States, and the author of Unbuild Walls: Why Immigrant Justice Needs Abolition (Haymarket Books, 2024).
