Check out this video to watch the Purposeful Purchasing:  How Western is Making University Purchasing More Socially, Environmentally, and Economically Sustainable.

Learn about Western’s sustainable purchasing goals and how Western is working towards meeting these goals through increasing the availability of surplus goods, supporting local vendors and women and minority-owned businesses, and making sustainable purchasing easier. We will learn from sustainability experts in Western’s Business Services. Participants will also learn about how they can contribute to this work.

Janette Rosebrook, Speaker

Janette Rosebrook currently works as a Contracts Specialist 3 in Contracts and Procurement and has worked at Western since 2016. She loves to garden and lives in a Columbia neighborhood cottage with solar panels that supply her household and charge her EV.

Lerin Swiackey is the Program Specialist for Travel and Procurement Departments and coordinator for WWU's Local Vendor Initiative.

Lindsey MacDonald, Speaker

Lindsey MacDonald is the Associate Director at Western Washington University’s Sustainability Engagement Institute where she administers a Climate Leadership Certificate program, teaches sustainability courses, and supports the university in transitioning to a more sustainable campus, including in our food systems. She is passionate about engaging students in real-world, hands-in-the-soil work to address the climate crisis. Lindsey holds a Master of Science in Conservation Ecology from the University of Michigan.

Kate Beck, Moderator

Kate Beck, she/her, Sustainability Action Plan Implementation Manager: Kate coordinates the implementation of Western's Sustainability Action Plan, reports on Western's sustainability progress, brings people together to work towards Western's sustainability goals. Prior to working at Western, Kate worked as a regional planner and policy researcher in public utilities and transportation. Kate has a Masters in City Planning and Masters in Public Health from UC Berkeley.
