Join Kim Broomer, the 2025 Washington State Teacher of the Year, as she shares her inspiring journey to this prestigious honor. Alongside her teammates, Hannah Nguyen and Cody Carpenter, Kim will highlight the transformative power of advocacy, connection, and collaboration in education. Through compelling stories and practical strategies, this presentation will inspire a passion for inclusive education and emphasize how the words and decisions of educators shape lives, build strong communities, and drive meaningful change.

Kim Broomer, Keynote Speaker

Kim Broomer is the 2025 Washington State Teacher of the Year and kindergarten teacher at Ruby Bridges Elementary in Woodinville. A dynamic educator committed to inclusive education, her teaching philosophy was inspired by her mother's 33-year career running an in-home daycare.

In her 22-year career, Kim has earned recognition as 'Ahead of the Class, " "Innovative Teacher of the Year," and a 'Hero in the Classroom. " She leads OSPI demonstration work on inclusionary practices statewide.

At Ruby Bridges Elementary, Kim creates an inclusive environment where each student's unique talents are celebrated. Her classroom is a space where students are empowered to thrive with necessary support.

Kim's dedication to dismantling ableism and fostering joy makes her classroom a transformative space. Her passionate teaching style inspires everyone who experiences her magical approach to early education.

Hannah Nguyen ('21), Speaker

Hannah Nguyen is a kindergarten teacher at Ruby Bridges Elementary and leads the school's inclusionary practices team. Her equity-driven teaching breaks down barriers and inspires both students and educators.

Hannah creates an inclusive classroom environment supporting diverse learners. Her expertise in developmentally appropriate practices and universal design for learning includes implementing AAC tools through AssistiveWare's pilot program.

Her collaborative approach creates lasting impact for students, families, and fellow educators.

Cody Carpenter, Speaker

Special education case manager at Ruby Bridges Elementary, Cody Carpenter works with kindergarten students who have complex support needs. He partners with teachers and staff to create inclusive practices fostering belonging and growth.

Cody, known as "Mr. C" to his students, creates safe and calming environments where children feel valued. His ability to connect with and support students helps them develop academically, socially, and functionally.

Leading with empathy over compliance, Cody honors each child's unique needs while serving as an influential advocate for inclusion at Ruby Bridges.
