Description
Check out this video to watch the Climate Change in the Salish Sea Bioregion.
How has anthropogenic climate change altered temperature and precipitation patterns in the Salish Sea bioregion? What further changes do global climate models project for our region over the 21st century? Dr. Flower will answer these questions with analyses and maps from the forthcoming Salish Sea Climate Assessment Report. Climate change has already altered temperature and precipitation patterns around the globe, and these effects are projected to intensify over the 21st century. While this is a global phenomenon, the rate and specific patterns of change vary regionally. Locally focused analyses such as this project are therefore crucial for understanding and preparing for regional climatic changes.
This work is being done as part of Dr. Flowers' Salish Sea Fellowship.

Featuring:
Dr. Aquila Flower, Speaker
Aquila is a broadly trained geographer with research interests in climatology, biogeography, and Geographic Information Science. She received her BA in Geography from Humboldt State University, MS in Geography at Univ of Victoria and her PhD in Geography at the Univ of Oregon. Her research focuses on the role of climatic variability, human land use patterns, and natural disturbances in shaping forest, alpine, and coastal ecosystem dynamics, particularly in the Salish Sea Region. She is the Director of the Spatial Institute and the primary faculty advisor for WWU's GIS degrees and climate change minor. She teaches physical geography and geospatial techniques courses. Aquila is also a Fellow of the Salish Sea Institute at WWU which helps to support and share her research.
